Measure twice, cut once. When working with a CNC it`s important to check that zero status! When making the peg pocket on the back of the board the machine plunged right through!
Lesson learned, and another board to keep as a reminder.

After making a bed for my sister in law, her little one wanted one to match! Kiddo is into Harry Potter about as much as auntie @drpkat . One day we`ll get the matching sheet set.
Same style as before, floating bed over a sub base with a stained ash headboard.

I recently discovered that bats can eat up to 1000 mosquitoes in an hour, and up to 4000 in a single evening! Due to this discovery I`m making a pile of bat houses. The CNC is busy cutting small grooves in the pieces for the bats to grab. Tomorrow I`ll be assembling

From log to vase. This piece was saved from the firewood pile from my dad because the grain looked good while he was splitting it. Threw it on the lathe and said a prayer and hoped t wouldn`t blow apart on me!
This is Manitoba maple. I wasn`t able to core it out all the way so it`s still wet and will likely crack and move as it dries so I didn`t do too much detailing with it.

Made a quick napkin box for a friend at work (although she calls me her colleague...). 1/4 ash with a simple miter joint finished with @grandfinishing...
This sucker was massive. Measuring in at 36 inches wide and I think it was about 50 pounds. Due to the weight we installed an aluminum french cleat on the back to provide flexibility for hanging so a couple of studs could be hit.
Claro walnut from @johnerswindsorplywood , custom metal frame from @anythingcustomltd and finished with @grandfinishing

Getting a good finish on a bowl can be tricky depending on the species of wood and how the grain is. Much of it is based on the skill of the wood turner. Since I started my shavings were like the ones on the left. Large resulting in rough finish and a whole lot of sanding. The middle and right were done with the same tool with slightly different techniques. Thanks to the advice which I overheard from the old folks at the wood turning club which was...."why do you spend so much time sanding? Just use the tools better!"

Just finished up this piece and delivered it today. One of the first burl slabs I picked up from @urban_lumber_mb and it certainly won`t be my last. This particular piece is Elm from the streets of Winnipeg. Legs from @fractaldesignsinc and finished with @grandfinishing

Do you have someone special in your life? Do they pound back wine?
Get a wine box to be classy, yet economical!
Brought some exotic wood from @blackforestwoodco the last time I was in Calgary and it was fun to use these different species. Also tried my hand at mitered box joints which was a fun challenge.

Last week i drove out to Calgary to deliver the dining room table I was working on (modelling by @jacobydesign s hubby). While I was there I took the opportunity to visit @blackforestwoodco to pick up some walnut slabs and wood things for an upcoming run of wine boxes. Also stopped by @woodcache for the first time and grabbed another walnut slab, some burls and some ebony. While there I got to meet the puppies and I was pretty close to taking one home!

Inspired by the @das_woodturning and Herm from the mb wood Turner`s association ,I tried my hand at making a peppermill. Took many attempts and measures in at 15.5 inches long. The goal for this one is to have by the stove for cooking and no one likes refilling these things so I made it as big as I could. This is using elm from @urban_lumber_mb which was originally from West Broadway #dutchelmdisease .

I`ve been quiet over the last several months and this is what I`ve been up to. @urban_lumber_mb gave me the heads up on some fantastic burls and I was given the opportunity to make a dining room table out of them. I used @iceepoxy for the river pour, @grandfinishing oil and hardwax for the finish. Legs are from @fractaldesignsinc and c-channel is from @nomadic_designs #winnipeg #woodworking #topshelfwoodsolutions #manitoba #elm #table #homedecor #home #madeinmanitoba #epoxy
