What a difference a vacuum chamber makes! This is a piece of burl with fresh green along the bottom with a 1/2 inch layer of clear epoxy on top. The vacuum chamber helped make this crystal clear. Will eventually become a cribbage board.

Looking for ideas for what to do with the left over pieces of a walnut slab from our coffee table. Pieces are 2.5 inches thick. I can make some bowls with the smaller pieces...or cut everything up into bowls but I'd rather that be a last resort. Any ideas?

As we pass #canadianagday I'm reminded of the importance of ppe on the farm. This is my new PAPR device which I use for wood turning because the dust is harmful after a while. Looking back to my grain shoveling days on the farm I wish this tech existed at the time! This helmet draws air through filters and blows it down your face that helps keep you cool and keeps condensation to a minimum. Fantastic (but expensive) purchase that will make breathing much easier for many years to come

Wasn't sure what to do with this piece of walnut left over from a mantle, but I sure didn't want to waste any of it. Pictured is my first attempt at a nested set of bowls. The piece was 2.25 inches thick so I barely got that third bowl out of it!

Making another batch of wood butter tonight. Mineral oil, coconut oil, and the most important ingredient of beeswax from @phils_honey . This is a basic wood treatment that can be applied to wood products such as cutting boards, spoons or bowls.

This is my absolute favorite part about working with epoxy. How it comes to life while applying the finish. This piece is from a maple burl that our friend found while fighting forest fires in BC (she's a badass).

Wet sanding some cribbage boards tonight. Need to go to at least 1000 grit or the scratch lines appear in the epoxy. Stay tuned for final product.

My epoxy molds maiden voyage! Tested my marriage this weekend by pouring this and leaving it INSIDE the house (warmer then garage and the product cures better). Luckily the mold stayed sealed and not a drop leaked. This piece is to test the UV qualities of this epoxy. Some products turn yellow after several months so this one will be put behind the couch on the windowsill.

Each time I pour epoxy I have to make a mold that is good for one use...maybe two. I sourced some 3/4 inch plastic and made this reusable mold for cribbage board pours. This "should" allow me to make the same sized board each time and have less waste and far less leaks!

Trying something new this week. Was trying to make a basic wooden device to make reading a bit nicer. Picture at the top shows device in use. Middle image is my prototype. Bottom picture is me having fun in the design stage. Would you use something like this?

Largest walnut project to date. Custom bottle opener on a cutout of Manitoba. Etched in important places and a border for something different. Sanding the north east edges involved using a nail file.

Outdoor weather station for Mr. Render for Christmas (just need a stone and some string to hang in front of it). Used cedar deck boards and painted the letters with latex paint. Finished with Osmo UV. Hopefully it'll withstand the elements! Another fun project to make!

Xmas ornaments made from aromatic cedar and the best string I had lying around. The engraving on this is a quote from their late grandmother in her handwriting. I am very glad I was able to meet this incredible woman who had a heart of gold. Very fun project to make and a great keepsake for the family.

These are the Xmas gifts I made for the lovely souls I work with. Their names are etched in pieces of cherry or walnut with a quote/nickname on the back that will either make them smile or roll their eyes. Hopefully these name tags can be used on their desks sometime in the near future.
